Huntington North edges Patriots

HUNTINGTON - The magic in close games ran out.
Jay County High School's girls basketball team had won four games by four points or less in the previous month. The Patriots were locked in another close battle Tuesday, but fell 46-44 to the Huntington North Vikings.
Pazia Speed scored 19 points in the loss for the Patriots (12-4), who trailed 14-5 after the first quarter before rallying to a one-point halftime lead. She also had four rebounds and two assists.
Mariah Hornaday added 10 points and five rebounds, and Erin Hunt scored 10 points. Kassi Hemmelgarn led the team with four assists.
Huntington North (2-12) ended a four-game losing streak with the victory. It was the first time this season the Patriots lost to a team not ranked in the state's top 10.
In junior varsity action, Shelby Shirk had eight points and 16 rebounds to lead JCHS to a 33-24 victory.

FR 8th grade wins
FORT RECOVERY - Points were at a premium in Tuesday's eighth grade girls basketball game as the Fort Recovery Middle School team knocked off the Coldwater Cavaliers 11-10. The Indians dropped the seventh grade game 32-27 to fall to 5-3.
Sierra Pugh was the Tribe eighth grade team's leading scorer with four points. Becky Brockman, Lexi Schmitz and Breanna Jutte each added two points as the team improved to 3-5.
Tori Lennartz scored more than half of the FRMS seventh grade team's points as she finished with 16. Mikayla Grover added five points.
Baskett tops WJMS
GAS CITY - West Jay Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team rallied in the third quarter, but could not continue their run in a 47-34 loss to host R.J. Baskett.
The Eagles railed by 11 at halftime before outscoring R.J. Baskett 17-6 in the third quarter to pull even. But, they managed just two points in the final period.
Nate Brackman paced WJMS with 12 points and six rebounds. James Williams also reached double figures with 11 points.
East Jay beats Eagles
The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball team used a balanced scoring attack in a 39-9 victory Tuesday over West Jay.
Abby Wendel and Kelli Morningstar each had six points for the Chiefs, who led 26-9 at halftime. Gabby Hart, Cheyenne Loy, Madison Miller and Lyla Muhlenkamp added four points apiece.
Megan Wellman scored six points to lead the EJMS B team to a 22-12 win.[[In-content Ad]]
