MARIA STEIN, Ohio - Saturday was simply a coronation.
Fort Recovery Middle School's eighth grade girls basketball team wrapped up the Midwest Athletic Tournament title with ease Saturday, clobbering the Minster Wildcats 32-15. The group also won the MAC crown last season as seventh graders.
Rachel Rammel scored 10 points to lead the Indians, who finished the season at 13-2. Chelsea Pottkotter followed with eight points.
Melissa Lochtefeld had six points, Janelle Schwieterman scored four and Amy Link and Sam Tobe added two apiece.
Boys fall just short
CELINA - The Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team just missed bringing home a championship Saturday, losing 29-28 to the host Bulldogs in the championship game of the McKirnan Classic.
The Indians led by one after the opening period and at halftime, but fell behind by one in the third quarter. They finished with a 13-3 record.
Josh Pohl, who turned in the game-winning three-point play in the semifinals, scored 11 points to lead the Tribe. Bobby Mattraw added seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
