Indian girls win 3-way meet (04/16/08)

FORT RECOVERY - The Indian girls won more than half of the events as hosts of Tuesday's three-team meet. Matt Vagedes picked up the only victories for the boys team.

Fort Recovery High School's girls track team won four of five field events and scored 84.5 points to finish ahead of Spencerville (58) and Crestview (31.5).

Spencerville ran away with the boys meet with 116 points, followed by Fort Recovery (32) and Crestview (27).

Juniors Anne Koesters and Tina Roessner and freshman Holly Brunswick each won a pair of events for the girls team. Koesters was first in both the discus (103 feet, 3 inches) and shot put (32 feet, 8 inches).

Brunswick added two more field event wins, taking the long jump (15 feet, 3¼ inches) and the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches). Roessner fought off Spencerville's Lyndie Brown by less than two seconds in the 1,600-meter run (5-minutes, 45.1 seconds), and went on to win the 3,200 run by more than 12 seconds in 12:10.1.

Abby Huelskamp was first in the 400 dash (1:08.1), and the Indians also took the top spot in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Vagedes took the pole vault at 13 feet, 6 inches for the boys team. He also won the long jump by a foot at 18 feet, 3 inches.

SA boys top Warriors

BERNE - Four different athletes each won a pair of events for the South Adams boys track team in an 87-36 victory over the visiting Woodlan Warriors. The girls team got double wins from Kylie Cisney and Maddie Moore, but fell 66-57.

Nathan Rupp owned the distance events for the Starfire boys, taking the 1,600-meter run (5 minutes) and the 3,200 run (11-minutes, 8 seconds). Trent Moore took the top spot in both the 100 dash (11.6) and the shot put (41 feet, 10 inches).

Sam Amstutz added another sprint victory in the 200 dash (25.7), and was first in the long jump (17 feet, 11 inches). Roman Smith swept the hurdles, taking the 110 (16.9) and the 300 (44.8).

Kylie Cisney matched Smith's effort in the hurdles, winning the girls 100 (17.5) and 300 (53.5). Moore took the 1,600 run (5:48) and the 400 dash (1:07), and Allison Beitler capture the 3,200 run (13:46).

The boys team won all three relays while the girls took first place in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

EJMS defeats Richmond

Jordan McBride led the way as the East Jay Middle School track teams defeated visiting Richmond. McBride won three events in the boys team's 53-47 victory while the girls team won 54-46.

McBride won the discus (108 feet, 2 inches), shot put (39 feet, 8 inches) and long jump (16 feet, 6 inches). Austin Bentz also won a pair of events for the Chief boys, taking the 800-meter run (2-minutes, 39 seconds) and the 1,600 run (5:48.9).

Maria Murphy finished first in the discus (80 feet, 11 inches) and shot put (30 feet, 10 ½ inches) for the East Jay girls. Katie Simmons matched Bentz with wins in the 800 run (2:52.2) and the 1,600 run (6:25).

Brock McFarland (high jump) and Morgan Link (hurdles) added single wins for the boys and girls teams respectively.

Julie Valentine won the 800 and 1,600 runs for the EJMS girls B team in its 72-26 win over Richmond. Kyle Scott (400 dash), Wiley Young (800 run), Ethan Bost (shot put) and Michael Bruggeman (discus) each picked up single wins as the boys B team fell 54-46.

Indian girls second

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio - Kylie Kahlig won a pair of events Saturday, leading the Fort Recovery Middle School girls track team to a runner-up finish at the 16-team Fort Loramie Invitational.

The Indian boys finished fifth thanks to three victories from Aaron Vagedes.

Kahlig led the big day for the Indian girls with wins in the shot put (32 feet, 3 ¾ inches) and the 400-meter dash (1-minute, 7.31 seconds). She was also the runner-up in the 200 dash.

Mikayla Westgerdes was first in the discus (84 feet, 10 inches), and Becca Tobe won the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches). The Indians placed second in the 4x100 relay, and Julie Kahlig was third in the 800 run.

Vagedes picked up all three wins for the boys team in the 200 dash (25 seconds), 400 dash (57.24) and the long jump (17 feet, 5 inches). Trent Kaiser and Sam Muhlenkamp tied for fourth in the high jump.
