Indian runners place 6th

COLDWATER, Ohio — The Indians finished behind three of their rivals in their final meet before the conference tournament.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls cross country team scored 168 points Thursday to finish sixth out of 19 teams at the Coldwater Lions Invitational. The Division III No. 3 Cavaliers (43), who are the defending state champions, edged top-ranked Minster (44) for the title, and Versailles (150) was fourth.
The Tribe boys were 17th out of 20 teams with 439 points while Division II No. 5 Van Wert (62) won ahead of three top-10 Division III teams — No. 5 Minster (72), No. 7 Coldwater (91) and No. 9 St. Henry (121).
Elle Sutter turned in the best finish for the Tribe, taking 15th in the girls race in 20 minutes, 32 seconds. Abby May was 20th in 20:45 ahead of Jessica Vogel (43rd – 21:40) Caitlyn Huelskamp (44th – 21:40) and Sam Tobe (75th – 22:45).
Derek Sutter crossed the line in 18 minutes flat to lead the FRHS boys in 47th place. Joey Gonzalez was 91st in 18:51 followed by Nathan Fullenkamp (108th – 19:14), Isaac Siegrist (144th – 20:02) and Mitchell Homan (150th – 20:16).

7th stays perfect
DELPHOS, Ohio — Will Homan scored four times Thursday as the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade football team rolled to a 44-0 win over host St. John’s to stay undefeated. The eighth grade team won 28-6.
Homan scored on runs of 37, 28 and 25 yards and caught a 65-yard TD pass from Ryan Braun for the Indian seventh graders, who are now 7-0.
Braun added a 55-yard touchdown pass to Cade Wendel, and scored on a 50-yard run.
Cole Dues led the FRMS eighth graders (4-3) with scoring runs of 15 and 60 yards. Jason Roessner had an 8-yard TD run, and Caleb Martin scored on a 5-yard run.


Flyers top spikers
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery eighth grade volleyball team lost 25-8, 25-21 Thursday to the host Marion Local Flyers. The seventh graders fell 14-25, 25-9, 25-15.
Devin Post paced the Tribe eighth grade squad (4-13, 0-8 Midwest Athletic Conference) with three kills, three assists, two digs, two service points and a block. Lexi Sheffer scored seven service points.
Kiah Wendel had 11 service points and three kills for the Indian seventh graders (10-7, 4-4 MAC). Grace Thien added four service points and four digs, and Madi Grover put up seven assists.

MS runners sixth
COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s middle school girls cross country team scored 178 points to finish sixth out of 13 teams at Thursday’s Coldwater Lions Invitational. The boys team was last out of 18 teams with 427 points.
Angela Heitkamp just missed a top-10 finish for the Tribe girls as she placed 11th in 13 minutes, 20 seconds. Grace Gehle took 17th in 13:34 followed by Paige Hemmert (54th – 15:01), Sydney Alig (78th – 15:51) and Heather Klenke (79th – 15:54).
Harrison Kaup posted a time of 13:15 for 55th place in the boys race. Also running for FRMS were Jared Heitkamp (94th – 14:35), Ty Francis (108th – 15:04), Eddie Hemmert (111th – 15:17) and Rodney Hemmert (124th – 15:46).
