Indians 13th in computer points (10/17/07)
Local roundup
In all likelihood, Fort Recovery's playoff hopes will come down to the final week.
The Indians sit about in the middle of the Division VI, Region 24 football computer rankings, from which the top eight teams will advance to the playoffs. They are currently 13th with an average of 5.95.
Among the 29 teams in the region, 12 have been mathematically eliminated while the top four - Covington, Sciotoville Community (Portsmouth), Catholic Central (Springfield) and Lehman Catholic (Sidney) - all are guaranteed to make the playoffs if they win out. The current eighth-place team is Notre Dame (Portsmouth), which has a 7.51 average.
Fort Recovery (5-3) will probably need to win at least one of its final two games - maybe both - and could put itself in prime position with an upset this week at Division IV Coldwater (7-1). The Tribe, which has never reached the postseason in football, closes the regular-season at home against Division V St. Henry (4-4).
Stars top Harding
BERNE - The South Adams High School volleyball team closed its regular season with a victory Monday, topping the visiting Harding Hawks 25-22, 25-19, 25-12.
The Starfires, who open sectional play Saturday against Woodlan at Adams Central at 11 a.m., got 10 digs and eight kills from Hali Feaster to lead the way. Jacie Yoder put up 19 assists to go along with seven digs and four aces.
Andrea Moser had six kills, Karen Bollenbacher followed with five kills and Maranda Potts totaled five digs.
South Adams also won the junior varsity match, 25-23, 18-25, 15-12.
EJ drops two Saturday
East Jay Middle School's sixth grade volleyball team dropped both of its matches Saturday, the first in a 25-21, 20-25, 15-14 heart-breaker to Wabash. The Chiefs also lost 25-12, 25-19 to R.J. Baskett to fall to 3-11.
Rachel Ferguson led the Chiefs in both matches, racking up 11 points and four digs against Wabash and five points and three digs against R.J. Baskett. Kaitlin Petro added nine points and four digs against Wabash, and Bailey Weatherhead had four digs and three kills.
