Indians clobber Ansonia for 10th victory (05/08/07)

ANSONIA, Ohio - The Indians reached double-digit wins Monday with a 15-4 victory over the Ansonia Tigers.

Fort Recovery's baseball team is now 10-8 heading into conference play versus Versailles Tuesday and the sectional championship game Wednesday against Marion Local. The Tribe scored six times in the second inning against Ansonia for a 7-0 lead and never let the advantage slip below five runs.

Troy Metzger led the Indians with three hits, and five of his teammates added two apiece. Metzger had a double and scored three times.

Frank Thien had two hits and three runs, Toby Metzger finished with two hits and three RBIs and Bobby Rammel scored three times and drove in two runs.

Jordan Staugler and Tony Diller also had two hits apiece.

Troy Dilworth worked 61/3 innings to earn the win for the Tribe. He allowed four runs - two earned - on nine hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

FR softball falls to Versailles

VERSAILLES, Ohio - Fort Recovery cut its deficit in half with two runs in the top of the sixth inning, but got no closer in a 4-2 loss Monday to the Versailles Tigers.

Beth May pitched 51/3 innings as she suffered the loss for the Tribe softball team, and two of the four runs against her were earned. She surrendered eight hits and two walks while striking out two.

Val Fortkamp went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Heather Schmackers was 2-for-2 with a double. Jodi Tobe singled and drove in a run, and Sandra Sudhoff and Carla Guggenbiller each scored once.

Patriot JV keeps rolling

BLUFFTON - Jay County's junior varsity baseball team stayed hot Monday night with a 14-1 trouncing of the Bluffton Tigers.

Ben Vance led the offensive onslaught with three doubles and a run.

Eric Homan went 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs, and Mike Daniels and Willie Mayfield each scored twice as the Patriots ran their record to 11-1.

Phil Powell added three hits, and Mayfield and Dalton McGill each had two.

Billy Wellman returned after missing most of the season with a broken hand to toss three scoreless innings of one-hit baseball for the win. He struck out five and walked one.[[In-content Ad]]
