Indians get bye in tourney

COLDWATER, Ohio — The Indians will head straight to the sectional championship game.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team came away with a first-round bye for the Division IV girls basketball sectional tournament at Coldwater. It will play for the sectional championship at 8 p.m. on Feb. 23.
Minster (12-6) got the No. 2 seed in the tournament, but chose to play an opening-round game and will meet New Bremen (10-10) at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19. The winner will advance to play the Indians in the championship game.
The first-round game in the other half of the bracket will pit St. Henry (8-11) against Marion Local (12-6) at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 19. Top-seeded New Knoxville will play the winner in the first sectional title game at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 23.
Freshman girls fall
VERSAILLES, Ohio — The freshman girls basketball team suffered a 30-25 loss Tuesday to the Versailles Tigers.
Kelsey Evers was the only Fort Recovery player to reach double figures as she scored 10 points. Kendra Siefring added three points.
MS boys lose two
ST. MARYS, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s boys basketball teams each fell Thursday to St. Mary’s. The eighth grade team lost 48-43 while the seventh graders endured a 38-28 defeat.
Caleb Martin and Jason Roessner each tallied 16 points to lead the eighth grade Indians, who slipped to 11-5. Micaiah Cox added 10 points.
Cade Wendel totaled 12 points to pace the FRHS seventh grade squad (9-7). Clint Metzger followed with four points.
Thien leads seventh
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — Gracie Thien the FRMS seventh grade girls basketball team Tuesday in a 53-35 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers. The eighth graders lost, 42-34.
Thien totaled 17 points for the eighth graders (14-2), who were up 21-6 after the first quarter. Claire Metzger and Kiah Wendel each had eight points.
Jocie Kaiser carried the scoring load for the Tribe seventh grade squad with 22 points. Whitney Will added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
