Indians pull into tie for MAC softball lead (05/10/05)

Fort Recovery roundup

ROCKFORD, Ohio — They got off to a rough start to the season, but the Indians have risen to the occasion in Midwest Athletic Conference play.

The Fort Recovery softball team handed the Parkway Panthers their first MAC loss of the season Monday, 3-0, pulling into a first-place tie with just one conference game to play.

The Tribe is now 11-7 overall, and 5-1 in the conference. Its last MAC game will be against Versailles, while the Panthers have Coldwater remaining.

A couple of seniors led the way for the Indians as Alyssa Tobe tossed the shutout and Krystal Rammel contributed to each of their three runs.

Tobe allowed just three hits as she went the distance. She struck out six batters and walked three.

Rammel was a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple. She drove in two of Fort Recovery’s runs and scored the other.

Renee Evers added two hits, a run and a stolen base, and Kristen Schwieterman scored the other run.

Baseball falls despite 5 HRs

ANSONIA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team just can’t seem to catch a break.

The team had been shut out in four of its last five games, including Saturday’s sectional championship loss to New Bremen. It broke out of the funk Monday with five home runs, but still fell short in a 14-13 loss to the Ansonia Tigers.

The loss for the Tribe (11-13, 3-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) came in part because of seven unearned Ansonia runs. Six of those came against Dusty Guggenbiller, who led the offense but couldn’t record an out as he pitched part of a 10-run Tiger fifth inning.

Kevin Schoenherr suffered the loss as one of five Fort Recovery pitchers to take the mound, giving up two runs — one earned — on three hits in 12/3 innings.

Guggenbiller hit a pair of home runs and racked up four RBIs and three runs. Clint Tobe, Chris Galdeen and Steve Trobridge also went deep in the defeat.

JV softball loses to Panthers

FORT RECOVERY — A four-run lead wasn’t enough Monday as the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team fell 13-8 to the Parkway Panthers.

The Indians (6-12) looked to be in good shape after scoring five times in the third inning and three in the fourth for an 8-4 lead. But, Parkway pulled to within two in the sixth and ran away with the game with seven runs in the seventh.

Beth May took the defeat in 62/3 innings of work.

Jodi Tobe had a pair of hits, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base to lead the Tribe. Tana Bergman was right behind her with two hits, two runs and a stolen base.

Sara Fortkamp had three hits and two RBIs, Abby Niekamp notched a double and two RBIs, Val Fortkamp drove in a pair of runs and Sam Staugler had two hits.[[In-content Ad]]
