Indians still third

FR basketball roundup

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Indians are still No. 3, but they’ve closed the gap.
Fort Recovery earned 225 points in this week’s Association Press high school boys basketball poll to finish third in Division IV.
The Tribe (11-1) is just three points behind No. 2 Newark Catholic (10-1) after trailing the Green Wave by 23 last week. It is 18 ahead of fourth-ranked Jackson Center (9-0).
Berlin Hiland (12-0) received 29 out of 30 first-place votes and remains No. 1 in the state.
Division III No. 7 Versailles (10-1) is the only other Midwest Athletic Conference team ranked in the top 10. FRHS handed the Tigers their only loss, 64-56, on Jan. 6.
Fort Recovery’s lone loss on the season came at the Flyin’ to the Hoop invitational to Division I No. 7 Walnut Ridge (12-0).

Freshman girls win
FORT RECOVERY — A big fourth quarter lifted the Indians to a 37-35 victory over the Versailles Tigers.
FRHS scored 17 fourth-period points to overcome a 23-20 deficit after three quarters.

Kara Jutte tallied 13 points to pace the Tribe, which improved to 3-6. Haley Knapke joined her in double figures with 10 points, and Cassidy Rammel scored nine.
Siefring leads 8th
UNION CITY — Kendra Siefring led a group of 11 players who scored for the Fort Recovery eighth grade girls Monday in a 48-10 trouncing of the Union City Indians.
The seventh grade team lost, 29-27.
Siefring was the only player to reach double figures, matching the entire Union City squad with 10 points. Mikayla Post and Kasey Vogel followed with six points apiece.
Jocie Kaiser scored 12 points for the FRMS seventh graders. Devin Post added eight points.

MS boys stumble
CELINA, Ohio — The Indian eighth graders suffered their third loss of the season, falling 40-30 to the Celina Bulldogs. The seventh grade team also lost, 24-18.
Jackson Hobbs scored half of the points for the Fort Recovery eighth graders (8-3), finishing with 14. Kyle Schroer added nine points.
Jason Roessner tallied 11 points for the seventh grade squad (3-8). Caleb Martin chipped in seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
