Indians win fifth straight

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians’ streak is at five.
The Fort Recovery High School baseball team swept the Fort Jennings Musketeers Saturday, extending its win streak to five games.
The Tribe (5-1) scored six runs in the fourth inning of the first game and survived a sixth-inning rally by the Musketeers for an 8-3 victory. The offense continued to roll in the second game, as Fort Recovery scored six runs in the first and four in the third en route to a 13-3 win in six innings.
Elijah Kahlig led the Fort Recovery offense with five hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs. Cole Wendel had three hits and three RBIs, and Mitchell Stammen and Jacob Muhlenkamp both added three hits apiece. Stammen scored four runs and added a pair of RBIs for the Indians.
Chase Bruns recorded the win in the first game, scattering five hits and striking out three in five shutout innings. Jackson Hobbs gave up three runs (two earned), struck out three and walked two in six innings to get the win in game two.

Stars drop pair
BERNE — After a 10-0 win Wednesday, the Starfires have dropped three straight.
The South Adams baseball team lost both games Saturday at the Adams County Coaches vs. Cancer Baseball Classic.
The Starfires lost the first game to Adams Central 11-6 and then fell to Bellmont 9-4 in the second game.

Adams Central jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, and added one more in the third before the Starfires (1-3) broke the shutout with a run in the bottom half of the third. Trailing 10-2, the Stars scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh but could not complete the rally.
In the second game, Bellmont led 6-2 after two innings. South Adams scored runs in the third and fifth innings to get within two, but the Braves responded with one in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 9-4 win.
Eric Pimentel had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to lead South Adams. Chandler Ingle, Collin Affolder, Jared Rife and Conner Sealscott each had two hits, and Affolder added two RBIs.

SA falls to AC
MONROE — The South Adams softball team had a three-run lead after four innings, but couldn’t hold off the Flying Jets.
Adams Central scored four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth Saturday to rally past the Starfires, 7-5.
Alyssa Bluhm had a double and a home run with three RBIs to lead South Adams (2-2).
Selina Jones and Katelin Augsburger both hit doubles, and Alaina Johnston and Keirstyn Grimm had one hit apiece.
Abby Myers took the loss for the Starfires, giving up seven runs — six earned — on 10 hits while striking out three and walking one.
Kara Keller had a triple, a home run and two RBIs to lead Adams Central and Abby Busse got the win for the Flying Jets.[[In-content Ad]]
