INDIANAPOLIS — The Patriots will put their undefeated record on the line tonight against one of the best teams in the state. On Monday, they picked up their first poll votes of the season.
Jay County finished tied for 15th in Class 4A in this week’s Associated Press high school boys basketball poll.
The Patriots (5-0) received 16 poll points to finish tied with South Bend Washington and Cathedral. Northrop (6-0) is ranked 10th in this week’s poll with 75 points.
North Central (Indianapolis) remains atop the poll with Hamilton Southeastern second. Both teams are 5-1. Park Tudor (6-1) and North Daviess (6-0) are No. 1 in Class 2A and 1A respectively.
JCHS will put its perfect record on the line tonight as it visits Muncie Central, which is 6-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A.
Batt ranked 10th
INDIANAPOLIS — South Adams wrestler Todd Batt is ranked in the top 10 in the state this week in the 138-pound weight class.
Batt, a two-time state qualifier, finished 10th in this week’s IndianaMat.com rankings. Tristan Macri of Mishawaka is ranked ninth, with Yorktown’s Devon Jackson at No. 1.
The senior, who is 19-1, scored a pair of victories last week during the Starfires’ matches against Leo and Bluffton. His only loss this year came by an 8-4 decision to Alexandria’s Luke Blanton, who is ranked fourth at 132 pounds.
Batt is the SAHS team leader with 55 takedowns.
JC freshmen fall
Jay County’s freshman girls basketball team struggled to score Monday in a 30-11 loss to the visiting Marion Giants.
The Patriots tallied more than two points in a quarter just once and were shutout 14-0 in the fourth.
Kay Morgan paced Jay County with six points. Chloe Steigerwalt added two.
Megan Mooney, Christie Powell and Tyra Lindsay all scored six points for Marion.
FRMS wins pair
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School girls basketball teams each posted victories Monday to improve to 3-4. The eighth graders defeated the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks 31-9, and the seventh grade team won 23-9.
Julie Wendel scored seven points to lead the eighth grade Indians, who led 27-4 after three quarters. Mikayla Post finished with six points.
Devin Post tallied eight points to pace the seventh grade team, which shut out Mississinawa Valley in the third period. Grace Gehle added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
