Four swimmers led the way as the Jay County Summer Swim Team finished second at the Wabash Valley Conference Championships Saturday at South Adams.
South Adams won the meet with 2,478.5 points, with Jay County second at 2,111. Wells Community was third with 1856 points.
Cori Vormohr had another record-breaking day as she joined Alysha Miller, Rachel Vogler and Sam Miller in accounting for 12 of the team’s 13 wins individual wins. Each won three events, and Lucas Holcomb added a victory in the 9-10-year-old boys butterfly.
Vormohr added to her array of records by bettering her own team mark and setting a new conference-best time in the individual medley finishing in 1:14.63. She also shattered cousin and coach Taylor Fullenkamp’s conference breaststroke record with a time of 38.08, nearly a quarter of a second better than the previous mark.
She also took first in the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly.
Alysha Miller’s wins came in the 9-10-year-old girls long freestyle, individual medley and short freestyle, while her brother Sam took the 11-12-year-old boys long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke. Vogler rolled to her victories in the 8-and-under girls butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
Jay County also sported a pair of winning relay teams, both in the 11-12-year-old boys division. Miller led teammates Steven Kelly, Shane Stein and Aaron Hudson as they won the medley relay and the freestyle relay.
Big day for Byrge
Kenny Byrge, Dunkirk, had another good day of racing Saturday at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville.
As one of 40 racers in competition, Byrge placed second in his heat race and fourth in the feature event. His victory moved him up to fourth in the United Midget Racing Association point standings among the 70 drivers who have competed.
His victory also pushed his grandfather and sponsor Larry Teegarden into third place in the UMRA owner standings.[[In-content Ad]]
