Jay baseball falls to Delta

MUNCIE — The Jay County High School baseball team scored a run in each of the first four innings.
It just couldn’t keep the host Eagles off the scoreboard.
Delta scored 11 runs in the middle three innings to beat Jay County, 12-5.
The Patriots (7-8) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the first inning and extended their advantage to 4-1 heading into the bottom of the third. The Eagles plated four runs in the third to go ahead 5-4, and added three in the fourth and four in the fifth to break the game open.
Jason Houston led the way for Jay County, going 3-for-3 and falling a home run short of the cycle. He also drove in two runs.
Levi Long and Wesley Hibbard both had two hits. Keenan James and Chandler Jacks both had RBI singles, and Kyle Selvey also added a hit.
Chaz Carroll took the loss on the mound for the Patriots.

Toby McCallister, Levi Long, Houston and Selvy also pitched.
Jay golfers second
 BLUFFTON — Jay County’s boys golf team didn’t have the success it wanted playing on its sectional course for the second time this season.
Evan Mathias was one of three Jay County golfers to shoot in the 40s Thursday at Timber Ridge Golf Course as the Patriots placed second with 187.
Bellmont won the three-team match with 162, and Bluffton was third, scoring a 189.
Evan Mathias shot a 43 on the par-36 course, making par on the par-3 sixth and eighth holes. He was also even on the par-4 ninth.
Zach Fullenkamp posted the No. 2 score for Jay County, making par on three holes for a 46. Jay Houck shot a 4, and Graham Haines turned in a round of 51.
Austin Wendel also competed for Jay County, finishing with a 52.[[In-content Ad]]
