Jay boys get votes in poll (12/30/2008)

INDIANAPOLIS - Jay County High School's boys basketball team hasn't played a game for more than two weeks. But its undefeated record has caught some attention.
The Patriots, 4-0, earned six points to finish tied for 17th in this week's Associated Press Class 4A boys basketball poll voting.
JCHS, which last played Dec. 13 at South Adams, finished tied with Noblesville (5-1) and Mishawaka (6-1). Bloomington South (6-0) leads the Class 4A poll with 190 points, and Indianapolis North Central (6-0) is second with 176.
Scheduled games against Muncie Southside Dec. 19 and Muncie Central Dec. 23 were postponed because of bad weather. The next game for the Patriots is Saturday at home agianst Muncie Central at 6:30 p.m.
Defense has been the calling card for Jay County thus far as the team ranks sixth in the state overall and second in Class 4A with a defensive average of 38.5 points per game. The team's average margin of victory is 13.
Ready for debut
A former Dunkirk resident is ready to step into the ring.
Shane Wells, 23, will make his debut Jan. 17 for the professional wrestling promotion Santino Brothers Wrestling/EvoLuch Entertainment Wrestling. The event will be in Newhall, Calif.
Wells trained at the Santino Borthers Wrestling Academy. He lived in Dunkirk for five years and attended Westlawn Elementary School.[[In-content Ad]]
