Jay boys soccer blanks Spartans (09/03/2008)
JCHS boys soccer
Jay County couldn't get on the board in the first half. Then again, when a defense has been playing as well as the Patriots' has the offense has time to come around.
Four second-half goals powered the Jay County High School boys soccer team Tuesday to a 4-0 Olympic Athletic Conference victory over the visiting Connersville Spartans.
The Patriots are 4-0 on the season and have allowed just three goals in four games, and just one goal in their last 280 minutes of play.
After a scoreless first half Tuesday, junior Patrick Johnson put JCHS on the board with an unassisted goal 16 minutes into the second half. Brad Horn and Isaac Poole, who each had hat tricks in the Patriots' previous win over Delta, tallied goals within 22 seconds of each other 11 minutes after Horn.
Lance Louth assisted on Horn's goal, and Johnson made the pass to Poole.
Dillon Ainsworth tacked on the final goal for Jay County with just 1:27 remaining.
The Patriots racked up a 30-3 shots on goal advantage, getting six from Horn and three each from Johnson, Poole and Joe Rasmussen. The defense turned in its second shutout of the year with Adam Daniels recording three saves.
Junior varsity
Jay County posted a second 4-0 decision, getting a pair of goals from Erick Guieterrez.
Colton Bartlett and Carlor Equivel each added a single score, and Joe Wallischeck and Lance Louth had one assist apiece. Austin Duncan was in goal for the shutout, notching two saves.
