Jay breaks more records (06/13/08)
Jay County Summer Swim Team
BERNE - Another meet, another win. And another two-record night.
The Jay County Summer Swim Team dominated the wins Thursday night, overcoming South Adams' depth and breaking two team records in a 649.5-558.5 victory.
The team also set a pair of records in its opening win over Delta.
Alex Bader was the individual star of the night, breaking the team record in the 8-and-younger girls butterfly. She finished in 18.84 seconds to surpass the record set by her sister, Sophie, in 2006 by two tenths.
She added victories in the long freestyle and individual medley.
Sophie Bader picked up a new record to replace the one she lost, teaming with Anne Vormohr, Ashley Mark and Cori Stone in the 9-10-year-old girls 100 medley relay. They were 0.79 seconds faster than the previous mark set by Abby Arnold, Taylor Fullenkamp, Cassie Golden and Janelle Johnston in 1993 in a time of 1-minute, 14.68 seconds.
Anne Vormohr took the top spot in the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley, and Sophie Bader won the butterfly, breaststroke and short freestyle.
Jay County, which won 15 of 20 relays and 45 of 60 individual events, also swept the 8-and-younger and 13-14-year-old girls events. Carley Stone joined Alex Bader in the 8-and-younger division with wins in the backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle. Mary Hudson was first in the 13-14-year-old butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke, and Eme Miller was victorious in the long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle.
Zane Shreve reached the wall first in the 11-12-year-old boys butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle, and Sam Miller took the 15-and-older long freestyle, individual medley and short freestyle. Caitlin Mark won the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly, individiual medley and breaststroke, and Cori Vormohr topped the field in the 15-and-older butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Ian James, Christopher McDowell, Sok Vormohr, Wiley Young, Lucas Holcomb, Aly Miller and Aaron Hudson each added a pair of wins. Evan Mathias took first place in the 11-12-year-old boys backstroke.[[In-content Ad]]
