Jay Co. blasts Spartans in 2nd (09/15/06)

JCHS boys soccer

The Patriots responded to their back-to-back losses emphatically.

Jay County's boys soccer team slaughtered the Connersville Spartans in the second half Thursday, scoring eight times after the break for an 11-2 victory.

Connersville actually scored the game's first goal, and trailed just 3-2 at the half. But Scott "Scooter" Bruggeman scored twice in the opening 20 minutes for the second half to give the Patriots control, and the home team added six more goals in a span of five minutes to turn the game into a blowout.

Mason Shreve scored his third goal of the game - he has three hat tricks this season - to push Jay County to a 6-2 lead 25:35 into the second half, and the Patriots just kept attacking the net. A minute late Brad Horn scored off of Bruggeman's third assist of the game, and Lucas Karpe added another tally with 11:38 left on the clock.

Patrick Johnson found the goal on an assist from Isaac Poole at the 10:21 mark, and Trey Dunn added a pair of goals in the next 1:09.

Jay County (5-3, 1-0 Olympic Athletic Conference) racked up 26 shots on goal to the Spartans' eight. Derek Mills finished with four saves for the Patriots.

Connersville opened the scoring nine minutes into the game, but Bruggeman assisted on goals by Shreve and Karpe to put Jay County on top. Shreve added his second goal for a 3-1 lead with 15 minutes to go before halftime, and Connersville cut the gap to one just 27 seconds later.[[In-content Ad]]
