Jay Co. boys top Eagles (12/13/07)
JCHS swimming
MUNCIE - A trio of Patriots contributed to four victories Wednesday to lead the Jay County High School boys swim team to a 97-89 victory over the host Delta Eagles. The JCHS girls got a record-breaking effort from Cori Vormohr and rallied to take first and second in the final event of the night to forge a 93-93 tie.
Aaron Hudson, Tom McCord and Sam Miller teamed with Chance Milligan to seal the victory for the Patriots boys, winning the meet-ending 400-yard freestyle relay in 3-minutes, 38.88 seconds. Hudson, Miller and McCord also joined Neal Fennig in taking first place at 1:50.53 in the 200 medley relay.
Miller, who has lost just once individually in dual meets this year, tacked on two more victories in back-to-back events. He was first in the 50 freestyle in 23.42, and then took the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.81.
Hudson earned his two wins in the 500 freestyle at 5:39.05 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.83. McCord posted a time of 2:18.55 to win the 200 individual medley, and added a victory in the 100 freestyle in 52.58.
Jay County scored yet another diving sweep, with Steven Kelly winning the boys event with 204 points and April Acker scoring 181.9 points to take first among the girls.
For the second time this season Vormohr was the only Patriot girl to win an individual swimming event. The junior destroyed her own school record in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:38.55. She set the previous mark last season at 5:44.65, and the record before then was 5:45.26.
Vormohr also took the top spot in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:05.22.
Needing to finish first and second in the final relay to forge a tie, JCHS dropped Vormohr to the B team. The move worked as she joined Rachel Osterholt, Caitlin Ruchgy and Ivy Simons in a comeback runner-up finish. They came in behind Acker, Aly Miller, Briann Saxman and Michelle Landfair, who secured the victory in 4:24.98.[[In-content Ad]]
