Jay Co. cruises past Rebels

Freshman Katie Aker led a mammoth day at the plate for the Jay County High School softball team Thursday, as it earned its second win of the season over the visiting Muncie Southsid Rebls, 16-2 in five innings.
Aker smacked a couple of doubles as she finished 3-for-3 for the Patriots (6-9), who took control with a 10-run third inning. She drove in five runs and scored three times.
Taylor Franklin and Chelsea Tighe each had a single and a double, and Katlin Petro singled and scored three runs. Rachelle Jackson and Franklin scored two runs apiece.
Jackson also earned the victory, giving up just one earned run in five innings. She struck out four batters while allowing four hits and two walks.

Six make All-MAC
Taylor Guggenbiller led a group of six Fort Recovery softball players who were honored this week as part of the All-Midwest Athletic Conference team.
Guggenbiller was the lone first-team selection for the Indians, who finished 2-5 in the league. She led the team with a .581 batting average, 21 RBIs and five home runs.
Shelby Brunswick, who led the Tribe in RBIs (21), walks (13) and triples (seven), was a second-team selection along with Janelle Schwieterman (13 doubles) and Kendra Brunswick (three home runs). Olivia Thien (29 runs) and Olivia Schwieterman (18 RBIs) earned honorable mention.

JC golfers win
Evan Ryder continued his hot streak, finishing just one stroke off his career best to lead Jay County to a 169-198 victory Thursday over the visiting Southern Wells Raiders.
Ryder parred each of the first three holes on the back nine at Portland Golf Club. He added pars on the 354-yard, par-4 16th and the 344-yard, par-4 17th on the way to shooting a 40.
Daniel Schmidt led Southern Wells with a 46.
Drew Houck and Evan Mathias each had four pars in their rounds as they shot matching 42s. Justen Keller and Ritchie Carducci each finished at 45, and Adam Alfont posted a 46.
Seth Ainsworth paced the junior varsity squad with a 44.

SA baseball tops Tigers
BLUFFTON — South Adams scored four times in the fourth inning to take the lead on the way to a 7-5 win Thursday over the Bluffton Tigers.
Alex Augsburger, a sophomore, earned his third win of the season for the Starfires. Nick Batt picked up the save.
Blake Fox smacked a home run in the victory, and Marcus Rich added a double.

Patriot JV wins
A four-run first inning keyed the Jay County junior varsity baseball team Thursday as it defeated the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets 6-2.
Blake Boughman powered the Patriot offense, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Jason Houston singled, scored twice and drove in a run.
Keenan James tossed four innings to pick up the victory, and Toby McCallister blanked Adams Central in three innings of relief.

Manor paces Pak-a-Sak
Six RBIs from Tyler Manor paced Pak-A-Sak Thursday as it defeated All Circuit Electric 21-2 in Portland Junior League Rookie baseball.
Manor finished 4-for-4 and scored three times. Blake Caldwell added four hits, three runs and three RBIs.
On Wednesday, Logan McGinnis went 3-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run and three runs to lead Barnett’s Auto Parts to an 11-8 win over Jay County Monuments.[[In-content Ad]]
