Jay Co. downs Norwell (12/07/07)

JCHS swimming

OSSIAN - The Patriot boys halted a five-year losing streak. The girls, on the other hand, had their current skid extended to three.

Jay County High School's boys swim team got two wins apiece Thursday from Sam Miller and Aaron Hudson to top the Norwell Knights for the first time since the 2001-02 season, 110-74. For the second time in three meets Cori Vormohr scored the only contested individual wins for the girls team, which fell 118-65.

Miller, who has twice broken the JCHS 200-yard individual medley already this year, shifted his attention to the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly against Norwell. He took the freestyle race by more than two seconds in 22.66 seconds, and cruised to victory in the 100 butterfly as well in 56.36.

Hudson took over Miller's spot in the 200 individual medley, picking up the win with a time of 2:15.73. He also led a one-two finish with Lance VanSkyock in the 100 breaststroke as the teammates turned in efforts of 1:07.63 and 1:13.11 respectively.

Vormohr, who also had the team's only two victories in its loss to Anderson Highland a week earlier, stayed perfect in dual meet competition. She won the 100 butterfly at 1:03.51 and was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.85.

Steven Kelley picked up his third straight diving win for the boys team (2-2) as he cleared 200 points for the first time this year. He finished at 204.85.

Tom McCord took the top spot in the 100 freestyle in 51.75, and Nathan Cain was first in the 500 freestyle at 6:02.63. The Patriots also took the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

April Acker added the only other victory for the JCHS girls (4-3), who were uncontested in diving. She topped each of her three teammates by 20 points with a score of 181.4.[[In-content Ad]]
