Jay Co. goes 1-2 at Marion (10/17/06)

MARION - The Marion Giants defeated the Patriots at the Jay County Invitational in August. Saturday, JCHS returned the favor.
The Jay County volleyball team defeated the host Giants 25-14, 21-25, 15-7 at the Marion Invitational. But, the team lost a pair of other three-game matches 25-18, 20-25, 15-8 to eventual champion Class 2A No. 2 Eastbrook at 25-21, 22-25, 15-10 to Northfield.
Theresa Reinhart led the victory over Marion with team highs of 12 digs and eight kills. Those totals led to team tournament bests of 24 digs, 20 kills and seven aces. The senior also had 10 points and two digs.
Junior Shelby Rines shared the team high of five blocks for the Patriots (13-20) with Erica Clark and Sarah Westgerdes. She added 21 digs, 19 kills, 15 points and four aces.
Clark put up 27 assists and scored 16 points, Jessica Muhlenkamp finished with 22 points and Ashley Horn had 20 digs.
Indians finish season
Fort Recovery's eighth grade volleyball team capped its year Saturday with a 25-2, 25-13 loss to the Marion Local Flyers. The defeat came in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament, and Marion Local went on to win the title.
Holly Thien had two kills and two blocks for the Indians. Olivia Thien and Renee Fortkamp each scored three points.[[In-content Ad]]
