Jay Co. keeps streak in tact (07/07/04)
Local Roundup
The Jay County Summer Swim Team didn’t stop at four this time.
Riding its second four-meet win streak of the season, Jay County visited the Randolph County Sharks Tuesday and extended its streak to five with a dominating 1,299-517 victory. The team is now 9-2 on the year with just two meets remaining.
Jay County won three quarters of the 20 relays, and took 50 out of 60 individual events. It had eight swimmers who won three events apiece, including three in the 11-12-year-old division.
Lynne Inman and Michelle Landfair combined to dominate the girls events in that age group. Inman was first in the long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley, while Landfair took the backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle.
Aaron Hudson added three more wins on the boys side as he took the butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
In the 13-14-year-old division Shelby Rines and Sam Miller controlled the evening with each of them coming up with wins in the individual medley. Rines was also first in the girls backstroke and short freestyle, while Miller took the boys butterfly and breaststroke.
Cori Vormohr could have easily added three more wins in the 13-14-year-old division, but instead she made the jump to the 15-and-older races where she and Derrick Lee each finished with a trio of wins. Vormohr had victories in the girls long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, and Lee won the boys butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
Levi Hummel also had three first-place results in the 8-and-younger division in the boys long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke.
Sok Vormohr and Rachel Vogler added two wins apiece in the 8-and-younger division. In the 9-10-year-old division, Emilee Miller, Laura Bowen, Wiley Young and Alex Sutton all picked up a pair of victories.
