Jay Co. loses in OAC

JCHS baseball

CONNERSVILLE - The start of conference play was not kind to the Patriots.

The Connersville Spartans handed the Jay County High School baseball team a pair of shutouts Saturday, 10-0 in six innings and 10-0 in seven.

Phil Powell took the game-one loss for the Patriots, who are now 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the Olympic Athletic Conference. He gave up four runs on seven hits in four innings.

JCHS managed five hits in the game, including two by senior Trey Dunn.

The second game of the twin bill was equally difficult as the Spartans tagged Patriot No. 1 starter Billy Wellman with six runs in the second inning. He gave up nine hits and two walks in the defeat.

Dunn, Michael Daniels and Colton Lombardo had one hit apiece.

The Patriots hit a home run in each game, but that was not nearly enough offense to keep up with the heavy hitting Connersville squad. The Spartans had four innings with four runs or more in the first game in a 20-6, six-inning win, and added three more in a 13-3 victory in game two.

Ty Huntsman took the loss in game one, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks. The game-two loss went to Andy Haffner, who allowed nine runs on two hits and eight walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Ryan Miskinis had a big offensive day for Jay County (2-4), smacking a home run as part of a two-hit, two-run effort in game two. He also went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in the opener.

Anthony Robbins hit a home run in game one, and Anthony Skeens had two hits and a run.[[In-content Ad]]
