Jay Co. netters clobber Rebels (09/22/06)
JCHS boys tennis
MUNCIE - With a 5-0 victory over Muncie Southside already under their belts, the Patriots mixed their lineup Thursday.
The result for the Jay County boys tennis team was the same as it improved to 10-4 with another 5-0 victory over the Rebels. It is just two victories away from matching the regular-season school record of 12 last season, and closes the season with visits to Adams Central and Bellmont next week.
No Patriot player was in their normal varsity spot, but the team still got a pair of shutouts. Hadmar Senk earned his first varsity win by a 6-0, 6-0 score of Cody Norvell at No. 2 singles, and Mark Alberson and Kyle Simmons rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles over Kevin Robey and Keith Thrasher.
Phil Powell won his debut match at No. 1 singles, fighting off David Guiden 6-4, 6-3. The sophomore pushed his record to 12-5.
Heath Rigby completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ryan Brand. At No. 2 doubles Josh Ludy and Thomas McCowan teamed to top Nick Albertson and Brandon Willard 6-0, 6-2.
Junior varsity
Adam Horn gave the Patriots two more shutout wins on the way to defeating Southside 3-1.
Horn rolled over Lynel Curd 8-0 at No. 1 singles, then beat Jared Green 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Jared Valentine defeated Terrance Smith 9-8 (10-8) at No. 3 singles, and Michael Daniels lost 8-4 to Skylar Furney at No. 2 singles.[[In-content Ad]]
