Jay Co. netters fall to Central (05/02/08)
JCHS girls tennis
MONROE - Three matches went to three sets Thursday, but the Jay County High School girls tennis team won just one of them in a 4-1 loss to the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
The lone victory for the Patriots, who have lost four straight to drop to 4-8, came at No. 1 doubles. Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp bounced back from a loss to Muncie Central a night earlier to defeat Katie Johnson and Jenelle Bertsch 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The other doubles match was also close as Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman took the opening set for JCHS. However, Katie Andrews and Heather Miller came back for Adams Central to defeat the Patriot pair 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Hannah McAbee also won her first set at No. 3 singles only to lose 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 to Lauren Harvey. At No. 1 singles Megan Adams fell 6-2, 6-0 to Rachel Barger, and Betsy Knittle suffered a 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Chelsea Selking at No. 2 singles.
Junior varsity
Mizuki Saito turned in a shutout victory to lead Jay County to an 8-5 win over the Flying Jets.
Saito defeated Adams Central's Patti Mankey 8-0 at the No. 3 spot, leading a Patriot sweep of the singles matches. Other wins came from Kayla Martin, 8-3 over Hali Wendel, and Mariah Clark, 8-5 over D.D. Farber.
Kellie Howell and Jenna Wilson turned in the quickest doubles win by an 8-1 score. Other winning doubles teams were Becky Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman, Ashley Caupp and Katie Link, and Taylor Bice and Rachel Ray.[[In-content Ad]]
