Jay Co. rolls to 7-0 win (09/22/05)

JCHS boys soccer

CONNERSVILLE — It took the Patriots more than a minute to score. But just barely.

Jay County’s boys soccer team tallied its first goal just 1:01 into the game as it defeated the Connersville Spartans 7-0 Wednesday.

The Patriots improved to 6-4 with the victory, which came in their first Olympic Athletic Conference game. They will meet OAC foes Anderson Highland and Muncie Southside at home on Saturday and Monday respectively.

Luke McClung opened the scoring for Jay County, getting his goal on a chip from 10 yards out on an assist from Mason Shreve.

McClung also had three assists of the Patriots’ seven assists in the contest, and fellow junior Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman scored three times.

Bruggeman tallied Jay County’s second goal, scoring on a header off a pass from Trey Dunn midway through the opening half. He scored again on a breakaway less than a minute later, and got the Patriots’ final goal on an assist from Nic Fejza 16 minutes into the second half.

Dustin Fox scored the final first-half goal for the visiting team with about 12 minutes to go before the break on a McClung assist. Sean Adams and Dunn each scored early in the second half, with both goals coming off assists from McClung.

Jay County racked up 17 shots on goal compared to just one for Connersville. McClung finished with four shots, Bruggeman scored on each of his three attempts and Shreve took two shots.

Derek Mills finished with one save.[[In-content Ad]]
