JCHS girls tennis

CONNERSVILLE — The Jay County girls tennis team is now in the midst of its longest losing streak of the season — four matches — thanks to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Connersville Spartans Saturday.

Former No. 1 doubles partners Erin St. Myers and Julie Sours accounted for the two victories.

St. Myers dominated the opening set and was able to finish off a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ashley Spurlock. She has won 10 of her last 11 matches and is 10-2 since taking the No. 2 singles position.

Sours reversed the set scores for a 7-5, 6-1 win over Jennifer Lingg at No. 3 singles.

In the other singles match, Whitney Schemenaur lost 6-3, 6-2 to Lindsay Cornner.

The Patriots (4-7) played a pair of close sets in doubles action, but couldn’t pull off a victory. Brianne Morrical and Chelsea Reff lost to Libby Smith and Rachel Weeks 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot, and the No. 2 doubles team of Stephanie Homan and Carissa Wilkins fell 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) to Mary DePersio and Tarrah McCreary.

Jay County won the junior varsity match 4-2 over Connersville, sweeping the three singles spots. Angie Stults won 8-0, Tiffani Bickel scored an 8-5 win and Megan Adams took an 8-4 victory.

The No. 2 doubles team of Cindy Muhlenkamp and Betsy Knittle grabbed the fourth victory for the team by an 8-5 score.[[In-content Ad]]
