FORT WAYNE — The Jay County High School volleyball team evened its season record, defeating the Fort Wayne South Side Archers Tuesday 25-9, 25-13, 25-11.
The Patriots (5-5) only missed four serves in the match — making 93.6 percent — as Lizzy Schoenlein led the way with a perfect 27-for-27.
Ava Kunkler and Bre McIntire led the Patriots with seven kills each, and Kylie Osborne added five.
Defensively, Faith Parr and Malarie Houck each had seven digs, and Abby Wendel tallied five.
Schoenlein also had 17 assists in the match.
Lady golfers win
WINCHESTER — The Jay County girls golf team edged the Winchester Golden Falcons 211-215 Tuesday at Winchester Golf Club.
Sydney Mathias led the Patriots with a 50, including shooting par on the 254-yard, par-4 third, and the 35-yard par-5 fifth.
Katlin Petro also shot par on the third on her way to a score of 51, while Carlie Wickey (54) and Alissa Culy (56) rounded out the top four for the Patriots.
Winchester’s Beth Redmond led all golfers with a 49.
JV win, freshmen fall
The Jay County junior varsity and freshman football teams were part of a couple of shutouts Tuesday, but were only on the winning end of one of them.
The JV Patriots shut out the Blackford Bruins 48-0 to improve to 2-0 on the season while the freshman team is still looking for their first score as they were blanked by the Bellmont Braves 49-0.
The freshman team fell to 0-2 on the season, a week after falling to Delta 55-0.
Drew Huffman, Austin Fairchild, Joey Link and Nick Lairson all scored touchdowns for the JV Patriots. In addition to shutting out the Bruins, the Patriots’ defense also recorded a safety.
The JV squad returns to the gridiron as they host the Muncie Southside Rebels, and the freshman team hosts the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Both games are Monday, with the JV kicking off at 6 p.m. and the freshmen at 7:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
