Jay Co. spikers winless at Marion invite (10/17/05)

MARION — The Patriots will be due for a victory when they start tournament action Thursday.
Jay County’s volleyball team dropped all three of its matches in the Marion Invitational Saturday — 25-14, 22-25, 15-7 to Eastbrook, 25-18, 25-15 to Northfield and 25-13, 25-10 to the host Giants. It has now lost 11 in a row with its last victory coming a month ago, Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Franklin Community tournament.
The team will play at the Delta sectional against Elwood Thursday at 6 p.m.
Theresa Reinhart led the Patriots (5-28) in their only three-game match of the Marion tournament, finished with team highs of seven digs and five kills. She also had one ace.
Markie Runyon also had five kills, and Erica Clark put up 15 assists.
Reinhart also shared the team high of three kills against Northfield with Kelly Sautbine while Clark had five assists against Northfield and three versus Marion. Clark, Sautbine and Ashley Horn each had five digs against Northfield, Runyon notched three blocks and Brittany O’Dell had a pair of aces.
Runyon totaled seven digs and two kills against Marion, and Sautbine also had two kills.
Jay County’s junior varsity team went the distance in all of its matches, but also came away winless at Marion. It fell 25-21, 18-25, 15-10 to Northfield, 25-21, 23-25, 15-3 to Marion and 22-25, 25-14, 15-13 to Eastbrook.
Maria Miller powered the Patriot effort against Marion with five aces and four kills. Jessica Murdock had three digs, and Sarah Westgerdes notched three blocks.
Miller also had three aces and two kills in the loss to Northfield while Lindsey Current totaled six kills and two blocks. Kari Brotherton also had six kills, and Murdock came up with eight digs.
Murdock came up with double-digit digs — 11 — against Eastbrook, and Alig had a team-high eight kills.
Stephanie Wellman had 17 assists and Northfield, 14 versus Eastbrook and eight against Marion.[[In-content Ad]]
