Jay Co. survives SA rally

The Jay County High School junior varsity baseball team survived a late-inning rally Wednesday to beat the South Adams Starfires 6-5.
Jay County had a 6-3 lead after six innings, but the visiting Starfires struck for two runs in the seventh to get within one. Strong pitching by Austin Beasley kept South Adams from tying the game.
Trailing 3-0, South Adams scored three runs in the top of the fifth. The tie game didn’t last long, though, as the Patriots answered in the home half of the frame with three runs on hits from Jake Carpenter, Jacob Geesaman and Andy Kohler.
Beasley got the win in relief, striking out one. Kohler started for Jay County and struck out four.
Ponderosa wins 17-0
In Rookie League action in Portland Junior League baseball, Ponderosa scored seven runs in each of the first two innings en route to a 17-0 win over Barnett’s.
A.J. Myers led Ponderosa with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs. Ryne Goldsworthy and Hank Imel also had three hits. Tony Wood, Rhysin Blowers, Jayden Comer and Landon Blowers each had two.
Cavan Hartzell, Brayden Collins, Bryce Wenk, Daidrick Retz and Keegan Hough all had hits for Barnett’s.[[In-content Ad]]
