Jay Co. swimmers split with Salamonie (02/17/05)

PORTLAND — The Jay County middle school girls swimteam rolled to a 126-60 victory over Salamonie Wednesday. The boys team was on the opposite end, taking a 119-65 defeat.

Michelle Landfair and Cori Vormohr paced the effort for the Jay County girls, each winning a couple of events.

Landfair took the 50-yard freestyle in 29.21 seconds, and won the 400 freestyle in 5-minutes, 53.43 seconds. Vormohr was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.19 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.61. They were also each in on a pair of relay wins as the team won all three relay events.

Adding individual wins for the girls were Megan Taylor in diving, Briann Saxman in the 100 freestyle and Ivy Simons in the 100 backstroke.

Thomas Bowen had the lone swimming victory for the boys as he took the 400 freestyle. Steven Kelly added a win in diving.

WJ B team wins

West Jay’s sixth grade boys basketball A team is still looking for its first win after a 48-17 loss to Montpelier Wednesday. But, the B team was able to break its losing streak with a 12-11 victory.

The B team got four points apiece from Patrick Chambers and Chris Miller. It improved to 1-3 with the win.

Dusty Rodgers and Brian Miskinis each scored four points in the A team’s defeat. Zach Cash added three.
