Jay Co. tankers clobber Blackford (03/17/04)
The Jay County middle school swim teams crushed Blackford Monday for a couple of victories.
The girls team won every event and swept five of them en route to a 140-37 win. The boys team took a 106-74 decision.
Briann Saxman and Cori Vormohr each had a couple of wins in leading the girls team over Blackford.
Saxman led one of the sweeps, topping the charts in the 100-yard individual medley in 1-minute, 21.68 seconds. She was trailed by teammates Nikisha Imel and Jessica Murdoch.
She also took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:12.11.
Both of Vormohr’s victories led event sweeps. She was first ahead of teammates Kelci Reed and Maddie Fennig in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:10.80, and finished the 50-yard butterfly in 29.47 in front of teammates Caitlin Ruchgy and Stephanie Skiver.
Reed paced one-two-three finish of her own, reaching the wall ahead of teammates Lauren Murrell and Rachel Osterholt in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:30.94. Ivy Simons led the other as she finished the 400-yard freestyle in 5:50.34 with teammates Michelle Landfair and Hannah McAbee following in second and third.
Landfair added a win in the 50-yard freestyle in 31.58, and Jessica Bullock was first in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:30.55.
Tricia Skiver teamed in an outstanding diving day for Jay County, as she won the girls competition with a personal-best score of 82.85.
Steven Kelly also scored a personal best in diving for one of his two victories for the boys team. Chance Milligan finished with a pair of wins as well.
Kelly posted 104.35 points to take first in diving, and Ryan Sutton was second. He was also the top competitor in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 2:47.56.
Milligan was first in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:10.93, with teammate Spencer Baker taking second. Milligan also won the 100-yard individual medley in 1:21.63.
Sutton added a victory of his own as he won the 50-yard butterfly in 32.64, and Nathan Cain took the 400-yard freestyle in 6:23.77.[[In-content Ad]]
