Local roundup

The Jay County middle school swim teams got started Monday, with the boys team scoring a 106-74 victory over the Delta Eagles. The girls lost 93-91 after being tied headed into the final event.

Jay County’s boys victory was powered by a couple of sweeps which included Caleb Hummel. Hummel joined Wiley Young and Nathaniel Imel in taking the top three spots in the 200-year freestyle, and he teamed with Colton Smith and Alex Sutton to pack the top three in the 100 breaststroke.

Hummel, Young, Neal Fennig and Richard Osterholt made up the winning team in both the 200 and 300 freestyle relays.

Richard Osterholt added a pair of first-place efforts, winning the 50 and 400 freestyle. Lucas Holcomb took the top spot in the 50 butterfly.

The girls team managed just two victories all night, but were tied with Delta at 85 after Michaela Long won the 100 breaststroke in 1-minute, 21.97 seconds. Delta grabbed the meet victory by taking first place in the 300 freestyle relay by 14 seconds.

The other victory for the Jay County girls came from Lynne Inman, who reached the wall in 33.28 seconds in the 50 butterfly.
