Jay Co. tankers top Jets

MONROE — The Jay County High School girls swim team finished first in all but one event Monday as it stayed undefeated with a 136-42 victory over the host Adams Central Flying Jets.
Senior Eme Miller and freshman Katy Smeltzer each won a pair of events for the Patriots (3-0), with Miller leading a sweep of the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 13.45 seconds and taking the 50 freestyle in 27.33. Smeltzer earned the top spot in the 200 freestyle in 2:25.48 and the 100 freestyle in 59.12.
Other swimming victories came from Caitlin Mark with a time of 2:39.83 in the 200 individual medley, Alyson Lucas at 6:26.61 in the 500 freestyle and Mary Hudson with a time of 1:11.30 in the 100 backstroke.
Jay County also won all three relays.
Freshman boys fall
MUNCIE — Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team suffered a 41-36, season-opening loss Monday to the host Delta Eagles.
Nick Clemens led the way with 15 points for the Patriots, who trailed by four at halftime and were outscored 9-4 in the third quarter. Justin Dirksen added 11 points.
West Jay loses
HARTFORD CITY — The West Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team struggled in the second half Monday on the way to a 37-18 loss to the host Blackford Bruins.
Daniel Meranda finished with 10 points and six rebounds to pace WJMS, which was outscored 22-8 in the second half. Joey Springer, Aaron Neale, Lance Ferguson and Will Watson each scored two points.[[In-content Ad]]
