Jay Co.'s Wright places 5th in state (03/22/04)

Local Roundup

Cody Wright put an outstanding cap on his season for the Jay County High Rollers bowling team Saturday. He finished fifth with a score of 638 in the state finals at the Western Bowl in Indianapolis.

The junior was fifth in the eight-bowler field after the first game with a 198, but surged to fourth with a 231 in the second game. Sitting just two pins out of second place with one game to play he rolled a 199, but it was not enough to make the tournament round as he finished fifth.

The top four bowlers after three games advanced to a sudden-death tournament for the state title.

Wright finished second in the semi-state last week, eighth in the regional — where Jay County won the team championship — and 11th in the sectional tournament. He reached the state final eight out of a field of more than 2,000 bowlers.
