JCHS girls soccer
MUNCIE — Seeking their fifth straight season of .500 or better, the Patriots were able to pull back to even Thursday.
Jay County’s girls soccer team got goals from six different players as it rolled to a 7-0 victory over the Muncie Southside Rebels. The win improved the team to 4-4-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Olympic Athletic Conference.
Amber Champ paced the Patriots as she scored the opening goal and was the only player to post two tallies.
Her first score came just over 12 minutes into the game when Dana Horn sent a pass across the goal from left to right. Champ was open and connected on her first goal of the season.
After a score by Sara Garringer, Champ scored her second goal on an assist from Garringer midway through the half for a 3-0 Jay County lead.
Cassandra Huelskamp picked up a goal with just under 10 minutes to go in the opening half as she ripped a shot into the net from the right side. Horn pushed the lead to 5-0 as she burst up the middle of the field and scored with just 24 seconds remaining before the break.
Saffron Redwine added a score in the second half off an assist from Nicole Pfeifer, and Tequila Guntle scored the Patriots’ final goal.
Champ paced Jay County with six shots, Guntle took four and Redwine and Caitlin Dunn each finished with three. The team finished with 24 shots on goal compared to only two for Southside.
