Jay County baseball draws Redskins

INDIANAPOLIS - The Jay County and South Adams high school baseball teams will both open tournament play Thursday, May 27.

The Patriots will play Fort Wayne North Side in the opening round of the Class 4A tournament at Huntington North at 8 p.m., and the Starfires will take on Bluffton in the Class 2A tournament at Bishop Luers at 6 p.m.

The Huntington North tournament will begin with the host Vikings playing Marion May 27 at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will play the Jay County/North Side winner in the semifinal round Monday, May 31, at 10 a.m. The second semifinal game will pit Homestead against Fort Wayne South Side May 31 at 12:30 p.m.

The championship game will be May 31 at 7:30 p.m.

The semifinal round of the tournament at Bishop Luers will be May 31, with Woodlan playing the host Knights at 10 a.m. The South Adams/Bluffton winner will play Adams Central in the other semifinal game at 12:30 p.m.

The championship game will be May 31 at 7 p.m.

South Adams and Bluffton will meet in Allen County Athletic Conference action Thursday in Berne. Jay County does not play North Side during the regular season.

Jay draws Giants

MARION - The Jay County High School girls tennis team was hoping to meet Marion in the finals. Instead, it will have to play the eight-time defending champion in its first match.

The Patriots drew the host Giants for their semifinal match of the sectional tournament hosted by Marion. They will play Friday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m.

The tournament will begin Thursday, May 20, at 4:30 p.m. with an opening-round match between Mississinewa and Madison-Grant.

The winner will advance to play Blackford in other semifinal match May 21.

The championship match will be played Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m.

Jay County lost 5-0 to Marion during the regular season, winning more than three games in just one match.

Houck earns honor

MUNCIE - Jay County's boys golf team was last in the four-team Olympic Athletic Conference Championships Monday, but Drew Houck picked up all-conference honors.

The Patriots finished with a 175 in the tournament at Crestview Golf Course, two strokes behind third-place Muncie Southside. Anderson Highland won the rain-shortened event with a 155, and Connersville was the runner-up at 160.

Houck finished just a single stroke behind medalists Chris Thompson, Bobby Moran and Taylor Stagman, all of Anderson Highland, who shot 38. He had four pars and four bogeys in his round.

Austin Mann and Evan Ryder each shot 44, with Mann recording a pair of pars. Jacob Heitkamp rounded out the team score with a 48, and Mitchel Rigby shot 49.[[In-content Ad]]
