Jay County finishes 1-2 at tournament

NOBLESVILLE — Jay County stopped a nine-match losing streak Saturday, winning their final match of the Noblesville Invitational 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 over Connersville after dropping its first two.
Alyssa Rigby finished the tournament with 17 digs, 16 points and five aces for the Patriots (8-12). Eight of those digs came in the victory over Connersville.
Mariah Hornaday had 23 kills and six blocks, and Maria Murphy also had 23 kills. Tanner Martin totaled 33 assists, Hannah Ainsworth had 18 points and Sierra Weatherhead finished with 17 digs.

Celina tops Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — A three-game loss to the Celina Bulldogs Saturday dropped Fort Recovery to 4-6 on the season.
Holly Brunswick had eight digs, seven points, six blocks and four kills in the defeat, and Shelby Brunswick added seven points and five kills.
Abby Backs had 11 digs, Kylie Kahlig finished with seven blocks, and Kayla Kahlig put up six assists.

FRHS also dropped the junior varsity match 25-20, 25-18.
Emily Link finished with 11 points and four assists in the defeat.

EJMS 7th 1-3
SELMA — East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade volleyball went 1-3 at Saturday’s Selma Invitational with its lone win coming 25-20, 25-21 over Alexandria. The eighth grade team finished 0-4.
Mallory Marshall paced the Chiefs with 33 points, including 12 aces, and four digs. Abby Reier finished with 15 points and nine kills, and Ava Kunkler added eight kills and six digs.
Catherine Dunn led the EJMS eighth graders with 14 points, including six aces, five digs and three kills. Jessica Kerrigan added 10 points and six assists.[[In-content Ad]]
