Jay County freshmen top Eagles

The Patriots trailed for most of the first half. But the second half was theirs.
The Jay County High School freshman boys basketball team limited the visiting Delta Eagles to eight second-half points Monday as it won its season opener, 24-22.
Bowen Runyon and Adam Dirksen led the way with six points apiece for the Patriots, who trailed by four at the half. JCHS outscored Delta 12-1 in the third quarter to take control.
Kyler Carvel and Joey Springer added five points apiece.
Matt Norris scored seven points to pace the Eagles. Dalton Barnard added six.
WJMS boys roll
DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School boys basketball teams rolled to a pair of victories Monday over visiting Blackford. The eighth graders dominated for a 59-23 final, and the seventh grade team won 32-17.
Andrew Trewyn paced the WJMS eighth grade team (1-1) to its first win as he scored 15 points, and Justin Crouch was right behind him with 14. Jake Myers scored eight points.
Cole Stigleman totaled eight points and eight rebounds for the Eagle seventh graders (2-0). Jordan Stultz added seven points.
East Jay splits
East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team picked up a 21-9 victory Monday over the visiting Union City Indians. The seventh graders lost, 17-14.
Britlyn Dues tallied seven points to lead the eighth grade Chiefs, who outscored Union City 10-2 in the third quarter. Emily Muhlenkamp and Deanna Chenoweth each chipped in four points.
