Jay County golfers get first victory of '05 (08/24/05)

Jay County’s girls golf team sliced 10 strokes in a day, leading to their first victory of the season.
The Patriots, who lost 228-229 to Anderson Highland Monday, shot a 219 Tuesday at Portland Golf Club to defeat the South Adams Starfires (235).
Trisha Champ had a off round for Jay County, but was still the match medalist by nine strokes with a 45. She was followed by three teammates all scoring 58.
Jessie Liechty topped South Adams with a 54, and Mara Gerber shot 56.
Champ was solid in the middle of her round, bouncing back from a triple-bogey on the 113-yard, par-3 second. She parred each of the next three holes and was 4-over par through five, but had two bogeys and two double bogeys in the final four holes for her 45.
Alissa McMillan had the only other par for the Patriots as she was one of the three players to score a 58. She started her round with a par on the 275-yard, par-4 first hole and also had bogeys on numbers five and eight.
Brittany Schlater added three bogeys for her 58, and Ashley Bunch had one as she also scored 58. Ivy Simons added a 65.
In junior varsity action Cindy Muhlenkamp posted the top Jay County score with a 60. The team finished with a 261, but South Adams did not have a JV squad.
Muhlenkamp’s round included a par on the 290-yard, par-4 fourth hole. She also had bogeys on the second, third, sixth and eighth holes.
Jennifer Hunt followed with a 65, and Brittney Lewis shot 66.
Amanda Barnett scored a 70, Alex Bunch shot 74 and Rachael Osterholt shot 78.[[In-content Ad]]
