Local roundup

MUNCIE - Chalk up another winning season for Jay County.

The Patriots long since clinched a plus-.500 record and capped the regular season Tuesday with a 173-189 win over Muncie Southside at Crestview Golf Club. Daleville also played, but did not have enough golfers for a team score.

JCHS (9-4) will play in the sectional hosted by Huntington North at LaFontaine Golf Club Friday at 8:40 a.m. with the top three teams and top three remaining individuals advancing to the regional round. The team has had winning records in each of the last five seasons, totaling a 51-14 mark in that span.

Adam Gray and Gray Suman shared medalist honors Tuesday with Daleville's David Clark as all three shot 40.

Suman finished with five pars, including three in a row on the second through fourth holes, to post his 5-over-par score. Gray also had a run of three straight pars, on holes five through seven, as he finished with four.

Jonathan Fennig recorded the lone birdie for the Patriots at Crestview, playing 1-under on the par-4 seventh hole in his round of 46. Justen Moser completed the team score at 47, Chris Shannon shot 50, and Aaron Daniels finished at 51.

Stars fall in finale

South Adams dropped its final regular-season match Tuesday, losing 154-188 to the Bishop Luers Knights. The Starfires will play in the sectional hosted by Monroe Central Monday at 9 a.m. at Hickory Hills Golf Club.

Phil Goodwin had the top tally of the night for SAHS at 43, but all four scoring Knights finished at 41 or lower. Following Goodwin were Jay Schwartz at 55 and Thurman Pursley and Landyn Waugh with matching 50s.

Andrew Fisher shot 64.
