Jay County softball loses second of season to Eagles (04/09/05)

JCHS roundup

PORTLAND — The Jay County softball team slipped to 0-2 Friday, losing 6-1 to the undefeated Delta Eagles.

The Patriots never led in the game, falling behind 1-0 in the second inning and then giving up four runs in the third. They posted their lone tally in the bottom of the third, and Delta scored once in the sixth.

Brittany Logue took the defeat, allowing six runs — four earned — on six hits. She struck out five and gave up just one walk.

Jay County just never got the offense rolling, leaving five runners in scoring position and striking out 11 times.

Trisha Champ went 2-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases. She scored the Patriots’ only run as Chelsea DeBoy drove her in with an RBI double. Saffron Redwine singled and stole a couple of bases.

Squaws blast JC tennis

DECATUR — The Bellmont Squaws proved too much for Jay County up and down the lineup Friday, shutting out the Patriot tennis team 5-0.

The No. 1 doubles pair of Erin St. Myers and Julie Sours came closest to a victory, but fell in a tie-breaker in the first set and couldn’t quite force a tie-breaker in the second. They lost to Megan and Molly Martin 7-6 (11-9), 7-5.

In the other doubles match Chelsea Reff and Brianne Morrical fell by a 7-5, 6-1 count.

Stephanie Homan was the only Jay County singles player to win more than one game, but lost 6-3, 7-5 to April Erxleben at No. 2 singles. Jenae Horn took a 6-0, 6-1 defeat against Sara Werling at No. 3 singles, and Whitney Schemenaur dropped the No. 1 singles match to Ashley Huffine 6-0, 6-0.

The Patriots also lost the junior varsity match, 4-1.[[In-content Ad]]
