Volleyball sectional
The Patriots will be in the final three. Monday's tournament draw guaranteed at least that much.
Jay County High School's volleyball team drew the bye in the Class 4A sectional tournament at Fort Wayne North Side and will play the host Redskins in the second of two semifinal matches.
South Adams also avoided an opening-round match in the five-team Class 2A tournament at Adams Central. The Starfires will open tournament play against Woodlan.
Before Jay County takes the court, the tournament will be whittled down to three teams as opening-round action takes place Thursday, Oct. 18. Homestead will play Fort Wayne South Side at 6 p.m., and Huntington North and Marion will follow at 7:30 p.m. The winners of those two matches will meet in the semifinal round Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m.
Jay County (13-15) and North Side will play in the other semifinal match at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and the championship match will follow at 7 p.m. The Patriots do not play the Redskins during the regular season.
In the tournament at Adams Central, Bishop Luers and Bluffton will play the lone opening-round match Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. The semifinal round will start Saturday, Oct. 20, with South Adams and Woodlan playing at 11 a.m. and the Bishop Luers/Bluffton winner taking on the host Flying Jets at 12:30 p.m. The championship match will be at 4 p.m.
