Jay County tankers clobber Jets (02/15/07)

Jay County middle school swim

Before the weather wreaked havoc on schools and their activities, the Jay County swimmers picked up a couple of victories.

Jay County's middle school boys swim team took advantage of its numbers in a 158-31 slaughter of the Adams Central Jets.

The girls team also scored a big win, 180-105.

Only four of the 12 boys events were contested, and Jay County still won three of those.

Both of the victories for Neal Fennig were contested as he won the 100-yard freestyle by more than 13 seconds in 1-minute, 2.70 seconds. He also led a one-two finish just ahead of Richard Osterholt with a time of 27.75.

Wiley Young earned the only other contested victory for the boys team, taking the win in the 50 butterfly by more than 20 seconds at 34.59. His other victory came at 1:15.88 in the 100 backstroke.

The Jay County girls got wins from five different individuals, three of which were contested, including a 22-second triumph by Laura Bowen with a time of 2:36.33 in the 200 freestyle. Jocelyn Mann took the 100 freestyle in 1:11.46, and Lynne Inman was first in the 100 backstroke at 1:27.08.

Bowen, Inman, Mallory Poole and Marissa Murrell teamed for victory in the 300 freestyle relay with a finish in 3:37.41.

Adding individual wins for the boys were Luke Holcomb (200 freestyle - 2:46.46), Alex Sutton (100 individual medley - 1:30.10), Osterholt (400 freestyle - 5:37.47) and Ben Hemmelgarn (diving - 51.60 points). Fennig, Osterholt, Holcomb and Eric Beougher posted a time of 3:49.98 for first in the 300 freestyle relay, and Fennig, Alex Sutton, Willie Skiver and Dillion Jutte won the 200 freestyle relay in 2:37.74.

Marissa Murrell edged teammate Michaela Long to win the girls 50 butterfly in 34.35, and Megan Taylor grabbed the diving victory with 92.80 points.[[In-content Ad]]
