MARION - For just the third time in more than 30 years, the Jay County High School boys swim team has recorded back-to-back 10-win seasons.
The Patriots picked up their 10th win of the 2008-09 campaign Monday night, winning 10 out of 12 events to beat the host Marion Giants 108-72.
JCHS had three consecutive 10-plus-win seasons from 2001 through 2003. They were 12-3 last year, matching the school record for wins in a single season.
Neal Fennig and Sam Miller led the Patriots to the milestone Monday, each winning a pair of events and contributing to two relay victories.
Fennig recorded a narrow victory in the 200-yard individual medley, winning by just three tenths of a second with his time of 2:25.24. He was also first in the 100 backstroke at 1:02.66.
Miller earned his first win in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.59. He took the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.29, and teammate Aaron Hudson was second at 1:00.02.
Fennig, Miller, Chance Milligan and Nathan Cain won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:40.94, and Fennig, Hudson, Wiley Young and Derik Lucas teamed to take the 200 medley relay in 1:54.99. Miller joined Hudson, Lucas and Milligan for a winning time of 1:38.14 in the 200 freestyle relay.
In addition to his runner-up finish, Hudson also led a Patriot sweep of the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.28. Lance VanSkyock placed second and Jared Valentine was third.
Cain won the 500 freestyle in 5:42.33, and was also third in the 200 freestyle. Steven Kelly took first in diving by just over two points with a score of 199.55.
Milligan placed second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle, VanSkyock was third in the 50 freestyle and Valentine finished third in the 500 freestyle.[[In-content Ad]]
