Jay County wins 5th straight

Jay County roundup

The Patriots are on a roll.
Jay County High School’s boys soccer team won just once in its first six games.
With a 2-1 victory at home Tuesday over the Bellmont Braves, they have now won five in a row.
Alex Abbott gave the Patriots (6-2-3) the lead just nine minutes into the game, taking a pass from Alex Dunn and firing a shot from 15 yards out. Dunn also assisted on the second JCHS goal, which came on a Dillon Ainsworth header midway through the second half.
Bellmont got on the board with just a minute to go in the game.
Austin Cowan had two saves for the Patriots, whose six wins are one more than in all of 2010.

WINCHESTER — Jay County’s boys tennis team fell short against a sectional rival Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Chance Fuller and Landry Inman came through with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over Reny Keener and Daniel Wallace at No. 1 doubles, but the Patriots dropped the other three-set match of the evening. Brad Leuthold went the distance for the third time this week, but lost 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to Gavin Cox at No. 2 singles.
Derek Smith earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory for JCHS against Dustin Detro in the No. 1 singles match.

DECATUR — The Patriots gave up the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left in a 2-1 loss Thursday to the host Bellmont Squaws.
Jay County trailed 1-0 at the half, but pulled even with 16:07 remaining in the game.
Andrea Bruggeman scored her first goal of the season, following her own shot after a save by Bellmont goalie Maci Bosch. Her score came after a Maddie Bailey corner kick.
The Squaws cashed in the game-winner with 2:10 left on the clock, thwarting Jay County’s attempt at a third straight victory.
