Jay County's Roughia to compete in national meet (03/10/07)

A Jay County graduate is competing in the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championship this weekend.
Jill Roughia, a 2005 JCHS graduate, is competing at the meet which concludes today in Johnson City Tennessee.
She qualified for the meet when she finished second in the 1,000-meter run at Anderson University's Fred Wilt Invitational Feb. 24. Her time of 3-minutes, 6.60 seconds was a career-best by nearly two seconds.
Roughia, who finished 20th in the 1,000-meter run at the indoor championships as a freshman, was named Huntington's Athlete of the Week for her efforts.

Helped the Findlay University men's basketball team roll through the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with three double-digit victories.
The NCAA Division II No. 3 Oilers (28-1) extended their winning streak to 27 games as they rolled through the conference tournament with wins over Ashland, 70-54, Mercyhurst, 77-40, and Grand Valley State, 71-61.
Niekamp finished with four points and two rebounds in the semifinal victory over Mercyhurst. He also had two rebounds and an assist against Ashland and grabbed a pair of boards versus Grand Valley State.
Findlay earned a No. 1 seed in the Division II tournament and will host the first three rounds with games today, Sunday and Tuesday. The Oilers open tournament play today against Wisconsin-Parkside (19-12) at 6 p.m.
Heath Williams

Added an extra hit in each of his first three games with the Manchester College baseball team.
Williams, who played his first two seasons at Ancilla, went 3-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base in the second half of a double-header March 3 against Maryville.
The leadoff hitter picked up a pair of hits in the first half of the double header, and had a hit, a run and two RBIs as the two teams met in season-opening action a day earlier. He is hitting .462 through his first three games with the Spartans.
Nicole VanSkyock
Jay County - 2004
Also competed at the Fred Wilt Invitational, hosted Feb. 24 by her Anderson University women's track team.
VanSkyock finished two places behind Roughia, her former JCHS teammate, in the 1,000-meter run. She was fourth with a time of 1-minutes, 19.47 seconds.
Alyssa Johnson

Helped the Taylor University women's track team to a second-place relay finish Feb. 24 as the Trojans hosted the 2007 National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships.
Johnson teamed with Tabitha Bogue, Vanessa Fereshetian and Lolly York for the runner-up spot in the women's distance medley in 12-minutes, 43.10 seconds. They were second only to the team from Dallas Baptist (12:38.98).
The freshman also finished the mile run in 5:51.31 for 12th place.[[In-content Ad]]
