Jay draws bye, Mississinewa (10/09/06)
Volleyball sectional
Jay County and Fort Recovery will both be play volleyball on sectional Saturday. South Adams will need to win a match to get there.
In the IHSAA tournament draw held this morning, Jay County drew a first-round bye and a berth in Saturday's semifinal round against Mississinewa. South Adams will play an opening-round match against Woodlan.
The seeding for Ohio's tournament was Sunday, with Fort Recovery lining up against New Bremen.
The Patriots (11-17) will get to sit back and watch as they will open in the fourth match of the Class 3A Delta sectional against Mississinewa Saturday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m.
Opening-round matches at Delta will be Thursday, Oct. 19, with Tipton meeting Blackford at 6 p.m. followed by the fourth-ranked host Eagles playing Elwood. The winners from those matches will play in the first semifinal match Saturday at 11 p.m. with the Jay County/Mississinewa battle to follow.
The semifinal winners will return at 7 p.m. to play for the championship.
Jay County does not play Mississinewa during the regular season. In matches against sectional opponents this year, the Patriots defeated Blackford 25-12, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18 and lost to Delta 25-14, 25-11, 25-10.
Fort Recovery (13-6) will play the second of two semifinal matches in the Division IV sectional at New Bremen Saturday, Oct. 21. St. Henry (11-8) will take on Minster (9-9) in the first semifinal match at 1 p.m. with the Indians against the host Cardinals (10-9) to follow at 3 p.m.
The winner of the St. Henry/Minster match will advance to play top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Marion Local (15-3) in the first of two sectional championship matches Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. The Fort Recovery/New Bremen winner will battle No. 2 seed and third-ranked New Knoxville (15-2) in the other championship match at 8 p.m.
Fort Recovery and New Bremen will meet in regular-season action Thursday. The Indians will also take on St. Henry Tuesday.
Against other sectional foes this year, the Indians have lost to New Knoxville 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 17-15 and defeated Minster 27-25, 25-14, 25-16 and Marion Local 25-14, 25-23, 24-26, 25-15.
