INDIANAPOLIS - The Patriots and Starfires will each get their chance at vengeance.
The Jay County and South Adams high school softball teams each got first-round byes and semifinal rematches in the IHSAA tournament draw this morning. Both teams will open tournament play Wednesday, May 26, with JCHS taking on Huntington North in the Class 4A tournament at Homestead at 7 p.m. and SAHS playing host Bluffton in Class 2A action at 4:30 p.m.
Action at Homestead begins Tuesday, May 25, when Marion plays Fort Wayne North Side at 5 p.m. Fort Wayne South Side and the host Spartans will follow at 7 p.m. The winners of those games will meet in semifinal action May 26 at 5 p.m. with the Huntington North/Jay County game at 7 p.m.
The championship game will be Friday, May 28, at 7 p.m.
The Patriots (4-11) played a close game against Huntington North during the regular season, falling 6-4 to the Vikings on April 21.
JCHS, which has lost to Homestead in the tournament championship in each of the last two seasons, does not play any of its other sectional rivals during the regular season.
The Class 2A tournament at Bluffton will begin Monday, May 24, with Bishop Luers taking on Adams Central at 5 p.m. Bluffton and South Adams will play in the semifinal round May 26 at 4:30 p.m. with the Bishop Luers/Adams Central winner meeting Woodlan at 6:30 p.m.
The championship game will be Thursday, May 27, at 5 p.m.
South Adams lost 13-3 to Bluffton during the regular season.
The winner of the Homestead tournament will advance to the one-game regional, which will be hosted by the winner of the sectional tournament at DeKalb.
The champion from the Bluffton sectional will host the one-game regional against the winner from the sectional tournament hosted by Northfield.
South Adams won its only sectional championship last season before losing 5-2 to Madison-Grant in the regional semifinal round. Jay County has never won a sectional title.[[In-content Ad]]
