Jay erases two records (06/06/08)

Computer problems delayed the start of Thursday's season-opener. Not much else could slow down Jay County.

A pair of pool records fell as the Jay County Summer Swim Team started its year with a victory over Delta at Portland Pool. A final score was not available, but Jay County won 16 of 18 relays and 46 of 60 individual events.

After the start was delayed by 45 minutes, Ashley Mark, Cori Stone, Sophie Bader and Anne Vormohr rolled to a record in the 9-10-year-old girls 100-meter freestyle relay. They broke the previous pool record set by Wells Community by just two hundredths of a second.

Cori Vormohr, one of 10 triple winners for Jay County on the evening, broke team and pool records in the 15-and-older girls 100 breaststroke. She shattered her own team record by more than two seconds and snapped the pool record set by Lisa Picek of Wells Community in 1995.

She was also first in the butterfly and short freestyle.

Sam Miller added wins in the 15-and-older boys butterfly, long freestyle and individual medley.

Jay County had three triple winners in the 9-10-year-old division, with cousins Anne Vormohr and Sophie Bader sweeping the girls events. Vormohr was first in the girls butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle and Bader first in the long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.

Adam Young took the boys long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle.

Carley Stone won the 8-and-younger girls butterfly, breaststroke and short freestyle, and Alex Bader picked up victories in the long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley. Jay County also swept the 13-14-year-old girls division with Mary Hudson first in the long freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke and Eme Miller taking the backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.

Caitlin Mark won the butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke in the 11-12-yuear-old girls division.

Ian James, Sok Vormohr, Haley Confer, Wiley Young, Lucas Holcomb and Neal Fennig each won a pair of events for Jay County. Christopher McDowell, Alex Abbott, Zane Shreve and Aaron Hudson each added one victory.[[In-content Ad]]
